The system at a glance
Health and well-being as a measurable quality
WELL evaluates indoor environmental quality—such as air, water, light, acoustics, and thermal comfort—as well as operational processes and employee benefits. Depending on the project, WELL Core, WELL Residential, or WELL at Scale may be applicable. The certification combines documentation with on-site performance verification.

If the primary goal is to verify energy demand, carbon footprint, or life-cycle costs, DGNB or LEED are often more suitable. WELL additionally requires standards for indoor environmental quality, operations, and user amenities.

How long is the certificate valid?
Three years. This is followed by re-certification through a renewed audit of the standards or continuous monitoring with annual assessments.
What role does performance testing play?
On-site measurements verify whether the established WELL requirements are met. The certificate will not be issued without performance verification. We explain our measurement services on the WELL PT page.
Which projects is WELL suitable for?
WELL can be applied to new construction, existing buildings, tenant improvements, and interior spaces. WELL Core addresses the base building, while WELL at Scale is designed for multiple locations and portfolios.
